On May 14, the second edition of the annual Future FRM Tech consortium meeting took place in the Wierickerschans Waterfort in Bodegraven. We look back on an inspiring day with over 40 participants, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and experts from the flood management field.
The morning kicked off with several presentations, with researchers from the University of Twente, Delft and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam showcasing their work. Daan Poppema (TU Delft) and Annouk Rey (Boskalis) presented their collaboration through the Hybrid Dune field experiment. They tested several types of dunes, including dike-in-dune and wall-in-dune constructions under storm conditions. Borjana Bogatinoska (University of Twente) and Negar Moghtaderi (Deltares) explored the concept of hybrid solutions, examining ways to effectively design and assess these measures to boost flood resilience. Veerle Bril (VU Amsterdam) and Laurine de Wolf (VU Amsterdam) discussed how the costs and benefits of adaptation measures against flooding can be evaluated, looking into damage reduction and benefits of a multitude of measures in the Geul catchment.
The afternoon continued with several sessions, in which the participants explored the flood risk challenges and opportunities of the Geul catchment, Zeeland and the Great Rivers case studies. The aim of this session was to bring together researchers and practitioners to work on the same problems. The event was closed off with the research lines coming together to discuss research progress and the planning of future steps.
Stay tuned for more updates as these projects develop and new insights are gained.
