Theme C) Regional water systems

Regional river systems draining into major rivers are an important, but often overlooked component of the (Dutch) drainage system. This theme looked further into these regional systems by giving insights on the:

  • Lateral activity and channel patterns of low-energy rivers to guide river restoration projects.
  • Local and regional effects of increasing water levels and delaying discharge for water retention.

On the left, an example of one of the river systems studied along the river Vecht (Source: RiverCare excursion in April 2015).
