Modelling salt exchange through shipping locks
The main objectives of this subproject are:
- Use 3D NHS approach to establish detailed simulations of the dynamics and mixing in a lock, to determine the salinity exchange through the lock, given the salinity and water level in the adjacent water systems.
- Use novel data to validate the model and understand the role of NHS physics (e.g. internal waves, buoyant jets, bubble plumes as mitigation measures) on salt exchange and release from the lock.
- To deliver parameterisation of salt released by the locks for incorporation into the 3D HS model.
