Large scale test dike built for piping and overflow erosion experiments.
Testing and demonstration site for innovative flood defence solutions, initiated by Valorisation Programme Delta Technology & Water (VPdelta) and located close the TU Delft campus. Since 2018, it also includes a real scale levee (10 m wide, 1.8 m high) which can be used for all kinds of experiments related to dike safety. A major advantage of this test site is that it allows relatively low-cost testing in realistic conditions.
For the Allrisk project, this test site has been used to perform large scale experiments on the temporal development of backward erosion piping. These results are used to validate findings from lab experiments and predictive models.
