Theme D) Sediment nourishment

This project aims at improving predictions of channel response to sediment management interventions such as nourishment and dredging in sand-gravel rivers like the Dutch Rhine.

More specifically, the objective is to improve the modelling of sediment movement in the river bed by:

  1. assessing techniques for efficient long-term modelling of morphodynamic changes;
  2. assessing the range of conditions for the which current numerical models are ill-posed (do not give unique or physically realistic solutions);
  3. developing a method as well as a sound physically-based model to address some of the limitations of current modelling approaches.
