Testing of saltmarsh and tidal flat erosion in 5 locations at the Western Scheld
Dikes along the Dutch coasts need to be reinforced to cope with the sea-level rise. Despite the needs for flood safety, the coastal area is also important for nature development and recreation. Therefore, the Regional Water Authorities are implementing several pilots to allow more nature-based measures.
AllRisk (project B1) addresses this challenge by testing the saltmarsh and flat tidal erosion in 5 locations at the Westerscheld. To better design nature-based measures, we assess the erosion of different management styles including bare mudflats and vegetated saltmarshes.
