About Us
The Rivers2Morrow is a research program that investigates the consequences of climate change and large-scale human interventions on the river functions water safety, nature, and navigability, and what it takes to keep these manageable. It will increase the system knowledge of lowland rivers with respect to hydraulics, morphology, ecology and governance, with a focus on developments that take place on a long temporal time scale until 2100 (and sometime beyond).

Morphodynamics of estuarine channels with mixtures of sand, silt and clay
We aim to improve modelling of sediment transport in stratified channels such as the New Waterway, so we can better predict how dredging requirements respond to climate change or human interference.

To develop deeper insight in the long-term development of the Dutch river systems, and provide new information for adaptive strategies, the Ministry has started in 2017 a research program called Rivers2Morrow. This program will have a duration of six years and will be part of the larger NKWK program, which addresses fourteen themes related to climate adaption issues.

The insights from Rivers2Morrow contribute to the scientific underpinning of the ‘Integral River Management’ program (IRM). This program prepares new policies for future discharge capacity and riverbed positioning, aimed at a resilient and multifunctional river system.
